In "Other" Words

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
I love the description that the writer of Hebrews paints for us. I think of the surgeon's knife cutting away at my inner most parts, exposing my heart and dividing (or imparting) that which is truth from everything else and removing that which will bring destruction so that I may be changed for God's glory. Using the Life Journal as a tool for daily reading of God's word imparts truth into my life directly. Each time I sit down to read, I ask the question, "How will I be different today because of what I have just read?" 1 Tim. 4:7 says, "Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness". It is God's word (ancient words) that makes this quote so powerful!
"Ancient Words, ever true
Changing me and changing you
We have come with open hearts
O let the ancient words impart."

The Word of God can change us just as sure as a knife can! We just have to be willing to allow it too! Wonderful thoughts. Thanks for sharing!

The word of God does get right in there to the very deepest parts of our hearts. I love your thought of the surgeon's knife exposing your heart and removing the destructive thing.

Hi Chris-

My pastor has been encouraging us to use the same tool. He adds a Y at the end of soap for yield to make us reflect upon what it is we need to give up to God to follow the elading of the scripture that we read.

Hebrews 4:12 is a scripture that came to mind when reading the quote. I love how His word, which is hidden and bubbles up on occasion.

Thanks for an encouraging, short, and to the point message...my favorite kind!

Blessings....

My first comment!! Your surgeon's knife on the inward parts brought to mind a time when God did surgery on my heart. I was amazed at how painless it truly was, and how glorious the healing felt!! Thanks for sharing.

I love how you worded that question, "How will I be different today..." It implies that it WILL happen, because His Word is an accomplishing Word, and it WILL do what He sends it forth to do. I heard Wayne Cordeiro speak at a conference last summer, and I just love the Life Journal idea. I'm going to incorporate SOAP into my journaling, I think. :)

I love that particular passage of Hebrews :)...I am glad that He is still active in our lives and changes us on a daily basis--I know it is true for me.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this week's IOW quote.

Blessings to your Thursday and always.
