God loves to decorate

I sat down this afternoon to begin work on next week's lesson for our Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study. We are currently in the middle of a study titled, "Steadfast Love - Finding self-worth through God's truth." We are on Lesson 9, "Love Changes Me". On the first page of this week's lesson the author shares this quote:

"God loves to decorate. God has to decorate. Let him live long enough in a heart, and that heart will begin to change. Portraits of hurt will be replaced by landscapes of grace. Walls of anger will be demolished and shaky foundations restored. God can no more leave a life unchanged than a mother can leave her child's tear untouched." (taken from Just Like Jesus by Max Lucado)

God's been redecorating around here for a long time and just when I get to thinking I like what He has done, it's time to rearrange some furniture, tear down a wall or two and freshen things up with a coat of paint. But just as I would wipe my child's tear away with my own hands because of my great love for them, God's love does and will continue to transform my life.

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phil. 1:6 (ESV)

Oh, I do believe God has been doing some decorating with me, especially this week. I gotta tell you, it hasn't been as much fun as I had decorating my baby's nursery :)

It's a little painful, but always necessary, right? Thanks for posting this. I've had a week where I need desperately to hear form the Lord on some issues. I'm searching....

There is a song about this called 'Welcome Home' that talks about God moving in to a heart and redecorating it...I can't think of the artist but it'd be a great one for this topic...I'll see if I can't fish around and find it..

Sounds like a great study

What an interesting way of looking at that! Now everytime I do something to the house I'm going to think of this lesson!

I am so thankful that He keeps redecorating our hearts. As another commenter said, it is not very much fun, but it makes us into the women that He wants us to be. Without it, we would be nothing. Thanks for sharing!

You are right. It's so easy to get comfortable with the changes He has made, but He always has one more thing to tweak. Great post Chris.

That is a precious quote Chris. I am one of those who doesn't like change very much. I get comfortable and don't want anything "rearranged". However, there is so much I would miss if those changes never happened. God knows just exactly how to go about it. I love that thought.

One time a friend of mine who has a degree in interior design came over to my house and TOTALLY changed the way my living room looked by moving a ficus tree and a chair. So often God moves or changes just *one* thing and it reorders my whole life! (And then there have been times when it's been "Extreme Makeover: Heart Edition... ;) Thanks so much for sharing this!

So true. God is doing a little redecorating in my life right now. I wonder if that is because I'm supposed to teach this lesson on Tuesday? You seem to have a great handle on this thing, maybe you should teach, huh? Wanna? I think you do! I say this as God is whispering to me, "I asked YOU to teach this!"
Me, stomping my feet, "Fine, I will but I'm not gonna like it."
Why do we always have to teach when we are going through it. Or, is it that we prepare to teach and God shows us the thing in our own life? Either way I don't like it!!

Natalie Joy you are awesome and I am fully confident that you will bring a teaching from the word of God that will minister to our hearts and transform lives.
